Third title of the year for Korean duo

South Korea’s Jung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae stamped their authority on the US$120,000 SGC Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold on Sunday to win their third title of the year.
Zhao YunleiThe Koreans, who captured the Victor Korean Open Superseries Premier in January and the Yonex German Open in March, breezed through the tournament without dropping a single game to live up to their top billing.
In Sunday’s final, they registered their fourth win from as many matches against Indonesia’s Alvent Yulianto Chandra-Hendra Aprida Gunawan, winning 24-22, 21-14 in 42 minutes at the Chulalongkorn University Sports Comple.
The former All England champions had to fight hard in the first game, but still opened up a six-point lead when they won seven consecutive points to go from 4-3 down to 10-4 up.
Alvent-Hendra, however, kept plugging away and slowly but surely, began chipping away at the lead and finally drew level at 19-19. The then took the lead 20-21 but despite having game point at two other occasions, could not finish off the match.
The second game followed the pattern as the first with the pairs exchanging the early points until the Indonesians led 9-8 Jae Sung-Yong Dae then found an extra gear to take eight unanswered points to more closer to the title.
Having learnt their lesson from the first game, the Koreans only allowed Alvent-Hendra another five points before wrapping up the match.
In the women’s doubles Proton Malaysia Open Superseries winners Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei (above), thrashed Chinese team mates Cheng Shu-Yixin Bao 21-7, 21-8 in 34 minutes.
Tian Qing-Zhao Yunlei won the first six points of the first game before their younger team mates won their first point. Cheng Shu-Yixin Bao began to make a fight of it but from 10-7 down, lost 11 points in a row.
Nova WidiantoTian Qing-Zhao Yunlei won the first three points in the second game, meaning they had won 14 consecutive points and there was no doubt they were going to win their second title of the year.
